related the following accounts of two dump truck accidents on Corkscrew
Road:
"Today, Monday, January 5, 2004, we had a Cougar Dump Truck spill his
load of dirt going west on Corkscrew Road around 11:00 am. My husband,
Ed, saw it happen. He is the Chairman of the Community's Security
Committee and was taking down the x-mas lights with several other people
at the guard gate when it happened. He said the truck was traveling at a
very fast rate of speed and noticed that it may have gone off the hard
road surface slightly before trying to compensate by turning back on to
the road when it began to fishtail. The driver lost control and the
truck flipped on to it's left side, spilling it's load as it slid down
the street about 150 feet before landing in the ditch right in front of
Wildcat Run Golf and Country Club. Many emergency vehicles, State
Trooper, 2 Sheriff cars finally came by and then cranes to upright the
truck as well as cleaning machines and additional trucks that were
needed to clean up all the dirt off the road. The police were trying to
control the traffic going east and west and also coming and going out of
our community to avoid another accident. The police said they thought
the truck driver was probably going at least 75-80 MPH for him to skid
so far."
Another wreck in nearly the same location happened a month
later, this time involving a service pickup truck. The driver of that
vehicle was sent to the hospital.
